The Lion King, released in July and featuring photo-realistic graphics, reached a worldwide gross of over $1.3 billion at the box office over the weekend, placing it above Frozen's $1.2 billion gross. By that explanation, The Lion King falls under the animation category.

Jon Favreau's remake has surged passed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($1.309 billion), Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($1.332 billion) and is on its way to beat Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II ($1.341 billion). James Earl Jones reprises his role from the original film as Mufasa. It might look real, but it is still animated.
