New FedEx format may seem foggy, but should bring clarity

Last year, with no staggered start, Tiger Woods won the Tour Championship but Justin Rose won the FedEx Cup. It's about trying to win golf tournaments.

Patrick Reed starts on six under with Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy fifth on five under.

"With Justin Thomas' position this year, it could be a three-peat for our name, but I'm going to try and give him a run".

The FedEx Cup standings were ridiculously complicated, with players and fans, alike, unsure of the state of play as the action -unfolded and Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour chief executive, chose to be bold as the tournament moved forwards to September.

Away from Atlanta, there's debate about whether Thomas Pieters will be under consideration for a Ryder Cup place next autumn after his return to the winner's circle at the Czech Masters. "You have a poor week now and you can finish 12th, 15th, 18th, 20th", he said.

The FedExCup points leader after the first two Playoffs events will begin the Tour Championship at 10-under par.

"But I'll never forget, I got a text from my mom the next day, 'That double bogey on 18 yesterday cost you $42,000.' I was like, 'Mom, if you ever send me a text like this again, I will delete your number".

Chalk it up to experience! Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom go slowly
Perry was previously married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010-2012. "That's something that I think we both try to do for one another", he continued.

"There isn't a person on the planet that's experienced this before, for the stakes it's for", Thomas said. "I get it from giving guys that have played better throughout the year an advantage, but I don't know. come back to me on Monday and I'll tell you if it has worked or not".

The format for the FedEx Cup finale has not been universally popular, with many critics taking aim at a qualifying system that has no mechanism for allowing the inclusion of 2019 Masters champion Tiger Woods and British Open victor Shane Lowry, two high-profile absentees this week.

The finale of the PGA Tour season is upon us and already we have a leaderboard in the race for that insane payout of $15 million to the victor. I know it's definitely a simplified version and format and people will understand it better.

"I get it from a fan experience point of view", he said. Is it to celebrate the best player over the course of the whole season? So would you want them here?

"That was something where, especially in a text message where you can't hear the tone, you just like look at it, you're like, Really?"
