SOCCEROOS midfielder Aaron Mooy has moved to English Premier League club Brighton from Huddersfield on a season-long loan.

Brighton went ahead in the 28th minute after pouncing on a weak headed clearance by Watford's Jose Holebas.

Brighton, which narrowly avoided relegation last season, took the lead when Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure deflected German midfielder Pascal Gross' cross into his own net in the 28th.

Brighton defender Lewis Dunk then produced a fine through-ball from distance that Frenchman Maupay ran on to and converted from a hard angle with his left foot to seal the victory with 13 minutes left.

"We've been working really hard to play this way... it's just the start of the season... the boys are behind the manager and agree with his ideas", Maupay told the BBC.

Watford haven't lost their opening league game of the season since 2006-07 (2-1 away at Everton) - they have since won six and drawn six of their opening league games in the last 12 seasons.

Watford manager has bolstered his defensive unit with the signing of former West Brom defender, Craig Dawson, while adding former Arsenal forward, Welbeck to his front line.

Watford boss Javi Gracia says there's no excuses after their 3-0 home humbling by Brighton. "They played better than us and deserved the three points and got the result they deserved". "No excuses... we try to improve for the next one", the Spaniard added.

After scoring in his each of his first four league games against Brighton (with Brentford and Burnley), Andre Gray has failed to score in any of his four appearances against the Seagulls for Watford (255 mins).
