President Trump condemns ‘racist hate’ and white supremacy after mass shootings

Former President Barack Obama, pictured at a conference in Berlin in April, tweeted Monday that Americans should reject language of "fear and hatred" from USA leaders.

In a rare public statement Monday about twin mass shootings that have rattled the nation, former President Barack Obama offered a forceful rebuke of the growing gun violence in America, denouncing not only the lack of federal gun control measures but public leaders who demonize marginalized groups and stoke racial divisions.

Texas natives and Democratic presidential candidates Beto O'Rourke and Julián Castro both thanked Obama for his statement on Twitter Monday.

Such language, Obama said, "has no place in our politics and our public life". "It has no place in our politics and our public life".

Obama did not mention Trump by name in his statement, although he sharply criticized the type of inflammatory rhetoric about immigrants and ethnic minorities that has become a staple of Trump's reelection campaign.

From the time he announced his candidacy in June 2015, Trump has been accused of making racist and anti-immigrant remarks.

He is the ideal example in the National Basketball Association of mastering your role, and Draymond Green has done that. There, he would have been eligible for a four-year deal worth a projected $152.6 million from other teams.

"These sinister ideologies must be defeated", Trump said in remarks at the White House. He accused Mexico of sending "their worst people" to the US, people he said who were "bringing drugs". He also launched an attack on House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., saying Cummings' Baltimore-based district was "a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess".

In a televised address later Monday, Trump called on the nation to "condemn racism, bigotry and white supremacy" but stopped short of acknowledging his own divisive and racist rhetoric.

In today's address, following shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio (incorrectly referred to by Trump as Toledo at one point during the speech), the president also called for mental health law reform and criticized the internet as a means to "radicalize disturbed minds". Police in El Paso cited a racist, anti-immigrant manifesto posted online shortly before the shooting, which they attributed to the suspect, Patrick Crusius.

Mr. Obama, in a statement, said America's level of gun violence was far out of proportion to other developed countries and that excuses about the difficulty of stopping the crimes will no longer cut it.

"We must make sure those judged to pose a grave risk to public safety do not have access to firearms and that if they do those firearms can be taken through rapid due process", he said.

Trump did not indicate in his tweets on Monday morning if he supported a sweeping gun control bill that passed the House with bipartisan support in February that requires universal background checks but has not been considered by the Senate. "And until all of us stand up and insist on holding public officials accountable for changing our gun laws, these tragedies will keep happening".
