Top Ivory Coast singer, DJ Arafat dies in road accident

Ivory Coast-born musician, DJ Arafat, has died following an accident in the early hours of Monday in, which his motorbike smashed into a auto in the capital, Abidjan.

The 33-year-old died on Monday at about 8am following a bike accident Sunday night in Abidjan, Côte D'Ivoire.

Arafat who is known for his love for speed got into a crash with an oncoming vehicle which was driven by a journalist from Radio Côte d'Ivoire. Social media images show his bike and the auto were completely damaged in the accident.

Born in Abidjan in 1986, DJ Arafat - real name Ange Didier Huon - was avidly followed in French-speaking western and central African countries.

AFP reporters at the Abidjan hospital where he died said that within hours of the reports being shared, around 1,000 fans had gathered outside, weeping and chanting "Arafat can not die".

He won the Best Francophone Award at the 2015 MAMAs and was nominated for Best African Act at the 2015 MTV EMA.

Besides, the unexpected demise of DJ Arafat has been confirmed by Davido who penned down a tribute to him via Instagram.
