US and Canadian fighter jets intercepted two Russian long-range bombers off the coast of Alaska Thursday.

Those zones cover Canadian and USA airspace and are monitored by Norad in the interest of national security. According to global law, a country's sovereign airspace extends 22 kilometres from its coastlines.

The U.S. too has carried out similar reconnaissance flights close to the Russian border, with a U.S. aircraft being intercepted over the Mediterranean Sea three times in three hours by Russian jets in June.

This May, the USAF scrambled fighter jets to intercept two Tu-95MS strategic bomber formations, escorted by Su-35 Flanker-E fighter jets, off the coast of Alaska on two separate days.

NORAD employs a layered defense network of radars, satellites, and fighter aircraft to identify aircraft and determine the appropriate response. O'Shaughnessy, the NORAD commander.

Copenhagen hit by second blast in four days
The building was damaged but no-one was injured in the incident early on Saturday, which took place just outside the city centre. On Tuesday, there was a powerful explosion outside the national tax agency, in what the authorities say was a deliberate attack.

This marked the second time this month that Russian aircraft were observed in the area.

The May intercepts were the first to occur close to Alaska since January, when Russian bombers entered Canada's ADIZ and were intercepted by both Canadian and USA aircraft. USA defense officials, however, have sometimes raised concerns about the Russian response to such flights, accusing pilots of conducting unsafe or unprofessional intercepts.

US and Canadian fighter jets intercepted two Russian bombers near the Alaskan coast Thursday, North American military officials said.

Now a joint panel is scrutinizing the specifications of the framework, and will make recommendations on the issues to the U.S. Pentagon as well as Canada's Department of National Defense.

The identification and monitoring of aircraft entering a US or Canadian ADIZ demonstrates how NORAD executes its aerospace warning and aerospace control missions for the United States and Canada.
