The Monday morning Fox News segment played a short clip on a loop showing an Antifa protester holding a hammer while facing off with members of the Proud Boys, a far-right group that staged Saturday's "End Domestic Terrorism" demonstration in Portland alongside alt-right and white supremacist groups. The Proud Boys were protesting Antifa's violent ways, especially after the group attacked conservative journalist Andy Ngo in June. Nearly two months ago, clashes between another far-right group, Patriot Prayer, and counterprotesters led to four arrests and four injuries, according to Portland Police Bureau.

The chairman of the far-right group Proud Boys told CNN they would keep coming to Portland until Wheeler "does something about antifa".

More than 1,000 people gathered in downtown Portland for the rally and counter-demonstration, according to police.

While the mayor's remark might have raised some eyebrows, Portland police chief Danielle Outlaw reported that 13 people have been arrested in connection with the turmoil, including for disorderly conduct, interfering with police, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon.

Right-wing and anti-fascist factions have clashed in Portland several times in recent months, including a rally that turned violent in July a year ago.

President Trump on Saturday said there was "major consideration" to name "Antifa" an "organisation of terror".

TED WHEELER: Portland, being a very progressive community, is always going to be at or near ground zero when it comes to this battle. "Hopefully the Mayor will be able to properly do his job!".

The events began late in the morning.

Sardinian sand theft: French tourists face jail term
The couple told police that they had no idea they were breaking the law, but they now face between one and six years in jail. The sand was found in 14 large plastic bottles and had been taken from a beach near Chia in southern Sardinia .

The injuries were minor, she said.

The rally has mainly been promoted by Joe Biggs, a member of the far-right Proud Boys group and former employee of Alex Jones' Infowars.

Police said they had seized the weapons, including shields, from multiple groups as they assembled along the Willamette River, which runs through the city.

More than two dozen local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, were in the city for the right-wing rally that reportedly drew people from across the country. The city called in its entire force of 1,000 police officers in response to what the Portland Police Bureau called "civil disturbance", which has attracted national attention.

Portland, one of the most liberal U.S. cities, is an antifa stronghold and the local Rose City Antifa had urged people "to defend Portland against far-right attack".

In response to Trump's tweet, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler told CNN that the president was not "helpful" in addressing a "potentially unsafe and volatile situation".

"I'm grateful this was largely a peaceful event", Mayor Ted Wheeler said.
