The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat said it is disheartening for the South Africans to attack their fellow Africans including the looting and destruction of their property.

Lulu Xingwana described as "senseless" calls by some Nigerians and other nationals to deport South Africans from their countries for the xenophobic attacks.

The African Centre for Migration & Society has followed the attacks against foreigners for several years, with significant spikes occurring in the years 2008 and 2015, respectively.
