Tiemoue Bakayoko secured a return to Monaco on a season-long loan from Chelsea on Saturday after a miserable two seasons since originally leaving the principality.

The 25-year-old midfielder has failed to impress since joining Chelsea from the Ligue 1 club in the summer of 2017 and was way down the pecking order under new manager Frank Lampard.

"I am very happy to return to AS Monaco, a club with which I hold, of course, fantastic memories", said the France global midfielder.

Vice president Oleg Petrov said: "We are delighted to welcome Tiemoue Bakayoko to AS Monaco". He returns to a club and a championship that he knows well.

The move came hours after China had unveiled retaliatory tariffs on $75-billion worth of US goods. In 2018, American firms bought $419 billion more in Chinese goods than China did of U.S. products.

He spent last season on loan with AC Milan and. although he was part of the Blues squad during pre-season, the France worldwide has been constantly linked with a move away.

Head coach Frank Lampard said on Saturday that the France global was due to head out on a temporary deal "to try to bring himself back to where he wants to be".

The Paris-born worldwide - he has one cap for France - was part of the Monaco squad which won the French title in 2016-17.

He is now back at the Stade Louis II, where he will reunite with head coach Leonardo Jardim, having initially joined the club in 2014 from Rennes.
