She said "Charles" had encouraged her to attempt to speak to a member of the president's family about Chinese-American economic relations, according to an affidavit.

A Chinese woman has been found guilty after lying her way into President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club on Palm Beach earlier this year.

Zhang will be sentenced on November 22.

When she was picked up a second time by Secret Service agents patrolling the resort, the 33-year-old told a different story: that she was planning to attend an event there that, in fact, had been cancelled. She smiled at her standby public defenders and was led back to jail. Jury forewoman Shelly Hoffman said only, "You heard our verdict". The passports were then passed on to Mar-a-Lago security who attempted to verify that Zhang was on the club's "access list".

An FBI translation of a Chinese businesswoman's text and phone messages indicate she knew an event at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club was cancelled before she left Shanghai.

Lee ran what was called the United Nations Chinese Friendship Association, which is not affiliated with the UN, and was photographed at least twice with Cindy Yang, a Republican donor and former Florida massage parlor owner who organized events at Mar-a-Lago.

A receptionist at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club says a Chinese businesswoman was acting "weird and odd", causing her to alert a Secret Service agent posted near the lobby. "She knew there was no event days before". Photos with celebrities like the Trumps, the Clintons or Buffett are sometimes used by Chinese business owners for promotion.

"I'm not available today", she said.

Testimony shows Zhang flew to the United States on March 28. Zhang was also asked if she was at Mar-a-Lago to meet anyone but allegedly didn't give a definitive answer to that question either. The woman told Willy Isidore she planned to visit the club, but he told her that was impossible unless she had an invitation.

Secret Service agents questioned Zhang after she was apprehended in the resort's lobby.

Zhang, for her part, claimed she "did nothing wrong" and "did no lying", maintaining her innocence until the end. Mar-a-Lago managers thought she might be the daughter of a member named Zhang and admitted her. She said Zhang went into a restroom when confronted by agents. Zhang said she was "going to the pool" and a manager eventually told security that Zhang was "the last name of a member at the Mar-a-Lago club".

Baffling behaviour marked Zhang's trial in U.S. District Court in Fort Lauderdale from the start.

Grumaz alerted the Secret Service. This, even after she was repeatedly told no such event was scheduled, Agent Sam Ivanovich testified on Monday.

However, when agents searched her room at a nearby hotel, they said they discovered more electronics gear including a device to detect hidden cameras, $US8,000 ($12,000) in cash and numerous credit and debit cards. She carried no swimsuit. She acted as her own attorney at trial after firing her public defenders in June. She sometimes spoke well in English, but other times relied on her Mandarin interpreters.
