She announced to her followers on Twitter she was returning to the tour for the first time in seven years.

The four-time Grand Slam champion retired in 2007 to start a family, came back two years later and then retired again in 2012. Roddick won the 2003 US Open title reached three Wimbledon finals, losing to Roger Federer all three times.

Clijsters, who now has three children, left the tour again in 2012 and has been working as a television broadcaster.

Kim Clijsters is officially coming back to the court.

Her return was warmly welcomed by WTA chairman Steve Simon. As a former World No.1, she is eligible for unlimited wild cards at WTA tournaments. On Thursday, Clijsters, among the few players to become World No 1 in both singles and doubles, announced her return to Tennis for a second time.

"And with so many inspirational athletes and moms competing, I can't wait to get back on the match court and see what's possible after having three children", the two-time Grand Slam victor in women's doubles told WTA Insider Podcast.

Clijsters followed up her US Open title by adding five more titles in 2010, including the successful defense of the US Open.

"I need to feel what it's like to stand across the net from these women", she said. "I haven't played at that level for 14 or 15 years but I enjoyed it", Murray said. I'm thinking that in the next four or five months that is going to get better. "I think for me it's the challenge". I'm not afraid of it.
