Rescue efforts are under way in Kenya to locate three people missing after flash floods at a national park swept away their tour group, killing at least four people, according to authorities.

Reports reaching TUKO.co.ke indicate that one body has already been recovered; while a massive search for other bodies is already underway.

"Six bodies of the flash flood victims have been recovered, leaving one tourist missing", KWS said in a tweet on Monday.

The two bodies were recovered during search and rescue operations, which have been ongoing throughout the night, the service said.

The missing five were part of a 12-strong group visiting Hell's Gate - where the 2003 film "Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" was shot - when they were swept away. Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Marcus Ochola said police officers and KWS personnel had been sent to the gorges for rescue and recovery.

He has struggled in two of his last three starts, allowing five runs in his previous outing against Miami (but Cincy won 8-5). The strikeouts were nice, but a two-run Jorge Alfaro homer in the sixth inning took a bite out of his final numbers.

It said on Sunday that the gorges were closed to the public as the rains are continuing.

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) said the incident at at Hell's Gate National Park involved five Kenyan nationals, a local tour guide and a "foreigner". "We believe the guides failed to read the weather in the area and surroundings properly hence the tragedy".

Gorges in the park are prone to flash floods and have in the past killed visitors.

Even when it has not rained, water from other regions of Nyandarua and Nakuru counties flow to the gullies in Hell's Gate in huge volumes.

In 2012, several youth from a Nairobi church perished in similar fashion as they were also swept away by floods in the gorges.
