Former NFL defensive back Terrell Roberts was shot and killed at his grandmother's home in Northern California on Wednesday night, according to multiple reports.

According to Bay Area media reports, Roberts was visiting his grandmother at her Richmond, Calif. home Wednesday afternoon when someone entered the home and shot him while in the backyard.

Roberts, 38, was "not mixed up in anything bad" and had no known enemies, relatives said. They said he looked to be about 20 to 35 years old and 250 pounds, and added that he wore a black shirt.

Roberts and the suspect were heard arguing in the garage before the shooting, but their connection to each other remains uncertain, police told The Post.

What Time is ABC’s Democratic Debate?
As Vox notes, every candidate who qualified for tonight's debate is automatically qualified for the October debate as well. Half as many Democrats will compete in the third debate compared to the second DNC debate in Detroit earlier this summer.

Roberts, a native of Berkeley, California, attended El Cerrito High School and Oregon State University before being signed by the Bengals in 2003.

"Man am exhausted of waking up everyday to bad news", retired defensive tackle Shaun Smith tweeted.

'I'm crushed to hear the news of the passing of my teammate and friend Terrell Roberts, ' Smith tweeted.
