An information campaign urging the public to "get ready for Brexit" has been launched by the government.

Government research shows that only 50 per cent of the population think it's likely the United Kingdom will leave the European Union on 31 October, while 42 per cent of small-to-medium sized businesses are unsure of how they can get ready.

The slogan appeared on a huge billboard at Westfield shopping centre in Stratford, east London, on Sunday, a day after thousands protested across the United Kingdom at prime minister Boris Johnson's plan to prorogue Parliament.

Travellers were warned to expect delays at the United Kingdom border after October and to check with their vet before taking pets to the EU.

Michael Gove, the cabinet minister in charge of no-deal planning, said: "Ensuring an orderly Brexit is not only a matter of national importance, but a shared responsibility" as he launched the adverts by referring to government polling that showed only 50% of the population think it is likely the United Kingdom will leave the European Union on 31 October.

Another user, @LuckyHeronSay, said: "Get ready for Boris Johnson's right wing disaster".

The Get Ready for Brexit campaign went live on Sunday, stating that the United Kingdom will be leaving the European Union on 31 October and urging the public to visit a new website to check what they need to do to prepare for a no-deal exit. "Let us take our country back and save our democracy".

It warns British nationals living in the European Union that they may need to apply for residency and may lose their healthcare coverage, and warns United Kingdom residents that they will only be entitled to 90 days travel in Europe every six months. It then returns results that suggest how to start preparing for Brexit in each scenario.

Some of the advice on the site includes warning that those wishing to travel with pets may not be able to take their animals overseas until 2020, advising them to contact their vet "at least four months" before travelling to have all the necessary paperwork.

Michael Gove, who is in charge of no-deal plans, said the adverts encourage "shared responsibility" for preparing to leave the European Union on 31 October.

The site also advises people to renew their passports "as soon as possible".

Travellers are also warned that mobile roaming charges may increase once Britain leaves the EU.
