Israel Reveals Another Secret Iranian Nuclear Weapons Site

Israel's prime minister has unveiled what he said was a previously undisclosed Iranian nuclear weapons site, further escalating a showdown between the two countries.

He showed a satellite photo of the facility in the southern Fars province's Abadeh area in June, followed by a second photo of what he said was the site being destroyed in July, after the Iranians realised they had been discovered.

In an deal with on reside tv, with photographs of the alleged site on a display guiding him, Netanyahu referred to an intelligence trove he had formerly declared very last calendar year.

Abadeh is a small city famous for its carpets, located some 500 kilometers (300 miles) southeast of Tehran, Iran's capital.

The disclosure of this new nuclear weapons research site comes on the heels of Iran's decision to abandon its commitments under the landmark nuclear deal and run full throttle with the advanced enrichment of uranium, the key component in a nuclear weapon.

Tehran suggests its nuclear programme is for tranquil functions only.

Netanyahu's latest statement comes just days ahead of Israel's September 17 polls in which he is facing a hard re-election campaign and opponents accused him of politicising intelligence with the presentation.

Israel has by no means formally confirmed that it has a nuclear arsenal but is commonly believed to be the only point out in the Center East with such weapons.

"Today I can reveal we have uncovered additional secret sites in Iran's nuclear program", he said.

He called on world leaders to "wake up and realize that Iran is...systematically lying" and to join US President Donald Trump in imposing sanctions on Tehran, which is continuing its drive to obtain nuclear weapons of mass destruction.

Last year, Netanyahu made a splash with a showy press conference - during which he stood in front of a bookcase filled with the allegedly top-secret Iranian files - and claimed the 2015 JCPOA Iran nuclear deal was "based on lies." .

One of his main rivals, Blue and White party candidate Yair Lapid, accused Netanyahu on Twitter of using the Iran exposé as "election propaganda at the expense of security".

"The Iranian nuclear (concern) cannot be made use of for marketing campaign antics".

In response to punishing United States sanctions imposed after Washington withdrew from the nuclear deal in May previous year, Iran has been breaching the limits it imposed on its atomic activities step by step.

Netanyahu firmly opposed the nuclear deal and then urged Trump to withdraw from it.

China - a signatory to the nuclear deal along with France, Germany, Britain and Russian Federation - called on the USA to "give up its wrong approach such as unilateral sanctions and extreme pressure against Iran".

"I call on the worldwide community to wake up, to realise that Iran is systematically lying", Netanyahu said.
