Lander 'Vikram' Closer To Moon. 1 More Manoeuvre Left Before Landing

Orbit of Chandrayaan-2’s lander lowered one step closer to Moon landing

It is from this orbit that it will begin its final descent on to the moon on the early hours of Saturday. The next de-orbiting maneuver is scheduled on September 04 between 3.30 am and 4.30 am. ISRO officials confirmed the same and said that on September 7th at 1:55 AM it will touch the southern pole of the moon for the first time.

The Vikram lander of the Chandrayaan-2 mission has moved away from the main spacecraft, and closer to the moon, lowering itself into an orbit that was 104 km from the lunar surface at the nearest point and 128 km at the furthest. The roughly $140 million mission is known as Chandrayaan-2, the Sanskrit word for "moon craft". All these days all operations were carried out by systems on the orbiter, from which Vikram, carrying Pragyan (rover) inside it, separated from on Monday. "Chandrayaan 2 orbiter continues to orbit the moon in the existing orbit and both the orbiter and lander are healthy", ISRO said.

ISRO chairman Dr K Sivan has noted that the parameters of the orbiter, lander and rover are in good condition.

In a major milestone for India's second Moon mission, the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft had successfully entered the lunar orbit on August 20 by performing Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) manoeuvre.

The brothers - who hold the most doubles titles ever in the Open era, and have won five U.S. She also has a decent record against top 10 players this year, winning six matches.

A lot of developments have taken place with Chandrayaan-2 during the past one week.

The orbiter carries eight scientific payloads for mapping the lunar surface and studying the exosphere (outer atmosphere) of the Moon while the lander carries three scientific payloads to conduct surface and subsurface science experiments. According to an ISRO press release, the lander is now being tracked by "the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru with support from Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) antennas in Bylalu". The module has reached a distance of about 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the moon's surface, the space agency said.

If India did manage the landing, it would be only the fourth country to do so after the U.S., Russian Federation and China.
