On Thursday, the Angels announced Ohtani will undergo a procedure on Friday to "address a bipartite patella" in his left knee.

A bipartite patella is a condition in which the patella, more commonly known as the kneecap, doesn't fuse together in early childhood and remains seperated.

Los Angeles Angels two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani's sophomore season is over.

On paper, this should leave Ohtani with plenty of time to be healthy and ready for Spring Training, though one potential wrinkle could be how this latest injury impacts Ohtani's ongoing recovery from Tommy John surgery. The discomfort increased when he began throwing in the mid-80s recently in his rehab work, according to general manager Billy Eppler. Rather than use his two-way talents, Ohtani worked exclusively as a designated hitter this year. The 2018 AL Rookie of the Year has been a steady presence in the middle of the Angels' lineup while he simultaneously went through a year of elbow rehabilitation.

Indonesia`s Habibie, president during transition to democracy, dies
The late Mr Habibie had studied aviation and aerospace engineering in Germany and the Netherlands in the 1960s. Thousands of Indonesians gathered in Jakarta Thursday to bid their final goodbyes to former President B.J.

Ohtani will have reportedly have an 8-12 week timetable to recover, so his season is over.

The Angels were considering delaying Ohtani's surgery until he completed his post-surgery throwing progression, but decided otherwise after consulting with Drs. "If we increased intensity and pushed on the intensity, and he compromised something in his delivery, that could lead to some unforeseen issues".

The Angels presented the possibility of surgery on Tuesday morning, and Ohtani made the decision 24 hours later, prior to homering in what would be his final game of 2019.
