Miami International Airport is operating as usual at this time.

In a slow, relentless advance, a catastrophic Hurricane Dorian kept pounding at the northern Bahamas early on Monday, as one of the strongest Atlantic storms ever recorded left wrecked homes, shredded roofs, tumbled cars and toppled power poles in its wake. Many grocery stores were open but boarded up.

As of 8 a.m. EDT (1200 GMT), Dorian was stalled over the Grand Bahama Island barely drifting westward at 1 miles per hour, according to the NHC, which said a prolonged period of "catastrophic winds and storm surge" would affect the island today.

Dudley said she last spoke to her parents on Sunday afternoon as the storm passed through the area.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster issued an order on Sunday for the mandatory evacuation of his state's entire coast. More than 830,000 people were under evacuation orders in Charleston and other coastal communities in SC, emergency management officials announced.

Evacuation Ordered for SC Coast as Dorian Threatens
Dare County declares a state of emergency and is the first to announce mandatory evacuations ahead of Hurricane Dorian . County officials will also begin bridge closures once wind speeds hit 39 miles per hour .

NMIA says it has been monitoring the movement of Hurricane Dorian and has noted its impact on countries within the region as well as its projected path to destinations served by the airport.

Evacuations ordered in Florida included 14,000 people in St. Augustine.

Palm Beach County, the state's third most-populated county and home to President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, was among those with partial mandatory evacuations. It also expanded storm surge warnings to the Flagler-Volusia county line in Florida and from the Georgia coast the Savannah River. Weekend traffic was light in Florida despite those orders, unlike during the chaotic run-up to Hurricane Irma in 2017 when the unusually broad storm menaced the entire state.

KPMP will remain closed through at least Wednesday at 7 a.m. "But it can change its course again and it can go back more toward Florida".
