The most affordable Porsche 911 Carrera sports car series will now ship with a new all-wheel-drive system as a standard feature

The Porsche 911 lineup continues to expand as the automaker has introduced the new 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. The cars reach dealers in early 2020, priced from ‭$106,050‬ for the Carrera 4 and $‭118,850‬ for the Carrera 4 Cabriolet. Both times represent an improvement of 0.1 seconds compared to the previous 911 Carrera 4 Coupe with PDK. The Cabriolet versions get to 60 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds and 4.0 seconds, respectively.

The 992-generation Porsche 911 represents a major update over the previous 991-generation vehicle, and included among the updates is a new front axle for the all-wheel-drive models. The enhanced front axle drive in combination with Porsche Traction Management (PTM) promote an increase in traction on snow, as well as in wet and dry conditions.

The new AWD versions also feature the Porsche Active Suspension Management adaptive dampers of the base-level 911 Carrera, which brings selectable "Normal" and "Sport" modes, the same staggered-diameter wheel setup - 19 inches in front and 20 at the rear, or an optional 20/21 configuration - plus the same 13-inch grey cast-iron brakes with four-piston calipers on all four corners.

Although off-the-line performance remains identical to the rear-driven Carrera models, the Carrera 4 promises the same year-round usability as the already-launched Carrera 4S - even Porsche labels the variants as the "surefooted" option - and adds the new "Wet" setting to its drive modes. The Carrera 4 Cabriolet is slightly off the pace, requiring 4.0 seconds to achieve the same feat. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) can be ordered as an extra. The only visual distinction between the standard 911 Carrera 4 and the 911 Carrera 4S derivatives are the exhaust openings in the rear fascia.

Tokyo slammed by deadly typhoon
Some damage was also reported on rails, including a tree fall on a line from Tokyo to the southern suburbs towards Yokohama. Ahead of the typhoon, JMA issued storm surge, flood, and landslide warnings, and asked the public to avoid going outdoors.

Distinguished visually only by two rectangular tailpipes (S models are fitted with a set of round items on either side), the base four-wheel-drive Carrera cuts the same handsome figure as the rest of its 911 brethren. You can also order the Porsche Torque Vectoring, which is standard on the 911 Carrera S and 4S. Tick the options box next to the sport exhaust system and the standard tailpipes are replaced by two oval-shaped units. A control panel of five buttons with the look of classic toggle switches creates the transition to the center console controls.

Pricing for the Carrera 4 starts at a relatively palatable $105,050 and if you opt to ditch the roof, that jumps up to $118,850, including destination.

The 2020 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet are now available to order and US deliveries are slated to begin early next year.
