A 10-year-old girl reported missing Saturday in Grant County is dead and her stepmother has been arrested for murder.

Carmack is now being held at Grant County Jail.

Her stepmother, Amanda Carmack, has been arrested. She was hidden inside a plastic trash bag. "All the scenarios are on the table and we are remaining optimistic until we have evidence to believe otherwise".

Multiple search crews have been out looking for Skylea since she was first reported missing.

Preliminary evidence showed that Skylea was killed between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, police said.

A Statewide Silver Alert was issued for Skylea Rayn Carmac Sept. 2 after she went missing August 31. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.

SIx other children were removed from the home and placed with the Department of Child Services.

"There's no rationale" for killing a 10-year-old girl, Indiana State Police Sgt. Investigators believe Carmack is the only one involved at this time and have no other suspects.

State Police Sergeant Tony Slocum was asked at a press conference Wednesday if a prior search was done and if they checked the shed initially.

In her call reporting Skylea missing, Carmack said the child may have run away from home and that she had done so previously, Slocum said. "At that point they had no indication that something nefarious had happened to her".
