Prime Minister Boris Johnson put the United Kingdom on notice that it faces the threat of an election within weeks, as the political crisis engulfing the country's divorce from the European Union deepened.

Johnson's opponents are now ready to act.

He added: "Boris Johnson knows that if no-deal Brexit stands on its own as a proposition it might well fail but if he mixes it up with the Corbyn question in a general election he could succeed despite a majority being against a no-deal Brexit because some may fear a Corbyn premiership more".

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson faces an unprecedented parliamentary showdown this week and he's expected to push for an early election to thwart any attempt to delay Britain's departure from the European Union.

Johnson has threatened to expel rebel Conservative lawmakers if they thwart his Brexit plans by voting with the opposition, a move that would eradicate his already slim majority and make his ability to govern very hard.

In the parliamentary chess game, the default position is that Britain will leave on October 31 without a deal unless a divorce agreement is struck with the bloc and ratified by the British parliament or legislation is passed to delay or revoke the departure notice.

On LBC today he added: 'Getting out with a clean break Brexit and after we will get a trade deal.

The Guardian columnist Owen Jones tweeted: "The hubris of an unelected Prime Minister shutting down Parliament, and threatening to disobey the law and purge his enemies meets its nemesis - the people drowning him out with a defiant cry of "STOP THE COUP!"

Khan commemorated the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II on Sunday in Gdansk, where Germany carried out one of its first attacks on Poland, and Monday in Warsaw, where he paid tribute at a memorial to Jews who fought and died in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

Tory success in a poll could rely on Mr Farage's Brexit Party not splitting the Eurosceptic vote in key marginal seats.

Rumors had swirled that Johnson might try to trigger a no-confidence vote - taking his message directly to the people to seek their support.

"I don't want an election, you don't want an election" the prime minister said.

Nicola Sturgeon said it was "plainly obvious" from his statement that Mr Johnson had "no plan to get a deal".

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is urging opposition parties in Britain's House of Commons to join together, saying the events in Parliament this week may be the last opportunity to stop a no-deal Brexit. That deal was struck down three times by parliament.

He says that Labour is "working with other parties to do everything necessary to pull our country back from the brink".

He says that "unless we stop Johnson's government now, it is a headlong rush into the arms of Donald Trump".

Mr. Johnson has been adamant about the Brexit deadline ever since he became Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister in July.

Speaking at the Institute for Government on Monday, Blair appealed to lawmakers to recognize that in modern British history, "there's never been a more important moment for politicians to put country before tribe and national interest before self-interest".

Time is short before the October 31 withdrawal deadline. "Anyone who is voting against the government is in a position where they are voting to undermine the prime minister's negotiating hand", Mr. Williamson told ITV's Good Morning Britain.

Lawmakers are returning from their summer recess this week for a brief session that promises to be a dramatic week in British politics.
