AC Milan have sacked coach Marco Giampaolo after just seven games in charge, the Serie A club said on Tuesday.

AC Milan now sit 13th in the Serie A table - just three points above the relegation zone - having won three and lost four of their opening seven matches of the league season.

Inter and Luciano Spalletti are now separated by quite some distance when it comes to discussing severance pay according to a report from Sky Sport Italia.

The governor has been holding situation-cum-security review meetings daily for two hours generally from 6 to 8 pm since 5 August. The decision was taken at a meeting held to review the security situation in Kashmir.

After talks with Luciano Spalletti broke down over compensation fees - he is still officially under contract with the Nerazzurri - Milan have turned to another former San Siro foe in the shape of Stefano Pioli, who was last seen in charge of Fiorentina, to replace the outgoing boss.

Despite finishing fifth, they opted out of competing in the Europa League this season and accepted a one-year ban from European competition. However, a dire display in the home derby against Inter, where Milan were soundly beaten 2-0 saw the pressure rise on Giampaolo.

He has struggled to reverse the ailing fortunes of I Rossoneri since taking over though, leading Milan to just three victories in their opening seven Serie A games.

Further defeats against Torino and Fiorentina followed and, even though they stopped the rot with a 2-1 win over Genoa on Saturday, it proved to be the end for Giampaolo.
