By Canadian Press Messages from former Boeing test pilot reveal Max concerns Oct 20 2019

The document is an instant message conversation between Boeing's chief technical pilot for the 737, Mark Forkner, who told a colleague that the performance of Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System during a simulation was "egregious" and that he had "basically lied" to regulators inadvertently.

Earlier this month, Boeing stripped Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg of his title as chairman, sparking speculation that he could soon be ousted from the company.

"We understand entirely the scrutiny this matter is receiving, and are committed to working with investigative authorities and the U.S. Congress as they continue their investigations", the company said in a statement.

The instant messages prompted harsh reactions from several Democratic lawmakers in Washington, with Representative Peter DeFazio saying, "This is no isolated incident".

Credit Suisse and UBS downgraded the stock after reports on Friday showed internal messages between two Boeing employees stating that the plane's anti-stall system behaved erratically during testing before the aircraft entered service.

DeFazio's committee also obtained details of a 2016 Boeing survey that found almost 40% of 523 employees handling safety certification work perceived "potential undue pressure" from managers, such as bullying or coercion.

The presentation was obtained by the committee's investigators and not among a trove of documents handed over the committee by Boeing itself, a person briefed on the matter said.

Demonstrating Humor: The best jokes made amid Lebanon's protests
Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets on Sunday for a fourth day of anti-government protests. Protesters sang into the night in Beirut and continued to demonstrate in other parts of the country.

"We will be transparent - and communicate in advance - with our customers who are booked to fly on a MAX aircraft, will rebook those who do not want to fly on a MAX at no charge, and for some time will not swap aircraft to a MAX if a change of aircraft is required", said a spokesperson at United Airlines, which owns 14 MAX aircraft.

The statement comes as Boeing's board of directors and top executives from its airplanes division and supply chain met in San Antonio, Texas for previously scheduled meetings on Sunday and Monday. The 737 MAX was grounded globally over safety concerns following two deadly crashes in the past year.

"The FAA is following a thorough process, not a prescribed timeline, for returning the Boeing 737 MAX to passenger service", the agency said last week. The 737 Max, of course, was later involved in two crashes that killed 346 people, one in Indonesia in 2017 and one in Ethiopia in March of this year.

Some experts said one of the best ways for Boeing to regain credibility is to release a video explaining the changes to the 737 MAX to make it safer.

Only 19% of business travelers and 14% of leisure travelers will voluntarily accept the 737 MAX within six months of returning into the skies, based on an Atmosphere poll.

On Sunday, Boeing said it has not been able to speak to Forkner directly about his understanding of the document.

Reuters said Ky made the comments before emails between two Boeing pilots about problems with MCAS on a MAX simulator became public.
