Google Fi Uses Dual SIMs in a Really Cool Way

It now only supports two types of triggers - location and Wi-Fi network - and only offers you a selection of four resultant actions: turning on "Do Not Disturb" mode or changing the phone's profile between silent, vibrate, and ring.

The new feature in Settings is called Rules and allows the user to set certain tasks when they are connected to a certain Wi-Fi network or at a specific location. For example, if you are watching an online video, Fi will switch to a better LTE network when available without any delays. Google is using Dual Sim Dual Standby (DSDS) hardware to connect to two networks at once, which isn't that insane of an idea, but it's using DSDS to connect twice to the same network, that network being Google Fi.

As the name suggests, "Dual Sim Dual Standby" only allows you to listen to two networks at once for incoming messages; you can't actually use both networks at once. But until now, that's relied on some network-based switching algorithms Fi users have often quibbled with.

British MPs reject Boris Johnson's plan to fast-track Brexit deal
The Prime Minister expressed "disappointment" that they had not been prepared to follow it up by agreeing the timetable motion. The move comes as Johnson and his supporters, who are in favor of Brexit, push to take action before an October 31 deadline.

Well, now Google's taking this on-device.

The Pixel 4 officially supports dual-SIM dual-standby for those who prefer to stay connected with the help of two networks - it's a feature that feels wasted in the USA given how much it costs to make that commitment in this country.

This falls slightly short of the absolute coolest way to use this technology, which would be combining both networks with something similar to Republic Wireless' "bonded calling" tech. Normally, switching between these networks requires a small amount of disconnect time, but with this new "dual connect" technology, Fi phones will be able to hop between two networks seamlessly.
