North Carolina vs. Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech defeated North Carolina 43-41 in a game that took six overtimes.

The game marked the nationwide debut of college football's new overtime rules, which now call for going for two points after the fourth overtime. Tech running back Deshawn McClease, an Oscar Smith High product, will be looking for his third 100-plus-yard rushing effort in his last four games against a UNC defense giving up 160.8 rushing yards per game (10th-best in the ACC).

Mack Brown and his staff have done a great job of locking up in-state talent with these commitment, putting an emphasis of recruiting in North Carolina. Tech's Khalil Ladler read a pitch play perfectly and tackled Michael Carter for a loss, sending the game into a sixth overtime. For UNC, quarterback Sam Howell completed 26 of 49 passes for 348 yards and five touchdowns. He raced for 122 yards on 21 bears and threw for 54 yards to make the Hokies pace.
