Pitt County offering flu shot vaccines without appointments
"This is a tragic reminder that we should never underestimate how serious the flu can be", State Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box says in a release.
Health officials recommend the flu shot to anyone 6 months old and up to protect against influenza.
"The flu vaccine helps protect the most vulnerable patients from the virus", Virginia A. Caine, M.D., director of the Marion County Public Health Department, said. "All of the vaccines this year in Canada are called inactivated influenza vaccines, so you can not get the flu from the flu vaccine", he told us.
The flu season typically picks up in California in late November or December, and it takes two weeks after vaccination for the shot to take effect.
