Match abandoned amid ‘race slurs’ is to be played again

On Saturday, semiprofessional club Haringey Borough hosted fifth-tier side Yeovil Town in a fourth qualifying round match for England's top domestic knockout tournament.

Metropolitan Police said on Monday that two men, aged 23 and 26, have been detained on suspicion of racially aggravated common assault.

Both teams left the field on Saturday after Haringey's Coby Rowe was racially abused in the 64th minute, with Yeovil winning 1-0.

Haringey said on Twitter that the game had been abandoned following racist abuse and their defender Coby Rowe wrote on his account that he had been a victim.

Despite the successful penalty and attempts from the referee and several Yeovil players to try to calm the crowd, the match was later called off.

Projectiles were reported to have been thrown at the keeper, who also reported being spat at, while Rowe was reportedly subjected to vile racist abuse from the stands.

Northamptonshire Police said the chanting was witnessed by officers just after kick-off in the League Two game.

There were rumors last week that the trailer would debut during the October 14 Monday Night Football game instead. We see the two of them fighting, as we have in previous trailers, but they also appear to be working together.

The Football Association said Monday that the match will be replayed from the start on October 29 at Haringey's home ground.

The alleged incident occurred just five days after England's Euro 2020 qualifier in Bulgaria was halted twice as fans were warned about racist behaviour.

"There is no room for discrimination in our game and we are working with the match officials and the relevant authorities, as a matter of urgency, to fully establish the facts and take the appropriate steps".

Both men were taken into custody at a police station in Somerset.

An investigation from the Football Association is ongoing and two arrests have been made in connection with the events.

Hearts vowed to ban any fan found guilty of racism from their Tynecastle ground indefinitely following reports Morelos was the target for abuse after scoring during Sunday's match.
