North Korea criticizes upcoming UN Security Council meeting

The US envoy in charge of disarmament, Robert Wood, spoke to reporters on Monday in NY where he was attending a meeting of the UN General Assembly's committee on disarmament.

The talks between both nations have already lasted for more than a year and had included three face-to-face meetings between Trump and Kim Jong Un.

"Right now, it's North Korea that is controlling the public narrative and forcing the US side to react, and that's a huge tactical disadvantage", he said. But after eight hours of talks in Stockholm, North Korean negotiator Kim Myong Gil said the North was disappointed. It warned that it would wait only until the end of the year for the United States to change course.

Pyongyang's top negotiator, Kim Myong Gil, said that the talks were "sickening," adding that "it depends on the US side if talks will be held hereafter".

Over the past few months, Trump has touted that North Korea had agreed to end its nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles tests.

KUHN: State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement that the US had floated several possible ways to move forward and had accepted Sweden's invitation to continue talks in two weeks' time.

The warning came two days after North Korea broke off nuclear talks with the United States in Sweden. When asked if North Korea would return to Sweden at that time, Kim deferred to the foreign ministry statement, which was unclear about whether Pyongyang would attend. An unnamed Korean foreign ministry official reportedly stated that the U.S. simply did not come prepared for the negotiations and was, in fact, abusing the dialogue for its own domestic political agenda.

Judge LAUGHS At Trump's Defense (Impeachment Update)
Biden's tough talk on China differs from his past statements, in which he downplayed the threat China poses to the United States . Three polls published Tuesday showed that a majority of Americans support House Democrats' impeachment inquiry.

One of the biggest problems of the process driven by Kim Jong Un and Trump's direct meetings is that it has given little time to working-level discussions needed to iron out the details of any deal to wind down a nuclear arms program in one of the world's most secretive states. North Korea denied the agency's claims and stated that the United States was spreading "ungrounded" stories about the alleged future meeting. The US has said that North Korea must first disarm before it can receive aid, a non-starter for Pyongyang, which has said that would be akin to political suicide and leave it vulnerable to a US attack. He said that after signaling that it would rethink its position and be more flexible, the US brought nothing new to the table.

The two countries held a working-level meeting in Sweden on Saturday.

Pyongyang has conducted six nuclear tests since 2006, the last one on September 3, 2017. Trump said the launch wouldn't derail the discussions.

Earlier on Saturday, Secretary of State Michael Pompeo offered cautious optimism during a news conference in Athens.

Ambassador Wood said the USA came to the table with creative ideas on how to address some of the issues, and that he thinks it is possible to make progress.

MIKE POMPEO: We came with a set of ideas.
