Ballon D'Or organisers, France Football, have revealed why Neymar was left out their 30-man shortlist for the award.

Neymar, 27, is missing from the initial nominations for the first time since 2010 after 12 months marked by injury.

Last year's Ballon d'Or victor, Luka Modric, became the first holder in history not to make the shortlist for the following year's award.

The French magazine on Monday dropped the 30-man shortlist for the coveted award, which features the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk.
