Rising star: Shapovalov lands maiden ATP title in Stockholm

Denis Shapovalov defeated Serbia's Filip Krajinovic 6-4, 6-4 in the Stockholm Open final to claim his first career ATP title. Shapovalov began the 2019 season strong with a fourth-round appearance at Indian Wells in March, followed by a semifinal showing at the Miami Open. But he struggled to find consistent results after that.

"I think my whole game was pretty on".

Denis Shapovalov has reached three Masters Series semi-finals but was without a title at ATP Tour level until Sunday's success in Stockholm.

Shapovalov's tournament victory is the first on the ATP Tour by a Canadian since Milos Raonic in January 2016. "I've had some bad luck, some tough matches in the semis but on the other side, making semifinals is a good sign". I just kept fighting and stayed patient.

Shapovalov triumphed in style, sending down 16 aces and losing two points on his first serve while saving the only breakpoint he faced in the one-sided, 84-minute contest.

Shapovalov converted on 4-of-5 break points and saves 3-of-4 to improve to 2-0 against Sugita. From there, the No. 4 seed raised his game, pushing Krajinovic in several marathon return games before finally breaking through in the ninth game of the second set.

Pacers, Domantas Sabonis Agree To Four-Year Extension
It does appear that Sabonis feels differently about this trade situation than the Pacers do. He's expected to take on a bigger role with the team this season if he sticks around.

"It's definitely a big step for me", said Shapovalov.

The Canadian joins Montreal's Felix Auger-Aliassime (18) and Raonic (32) in the field of this week's Erste Bank Open in Vienna, Austria. I love this city so much, it's incredible for me.

"If I were to choose one of the ways to finish my career, it would be like this, leaving everything on the court", Tipsarevic said.

If Shapovalov was nervous serving out his first championship, you wouldn't have been able to tell. "It was a great week for me, I keep going and I have to work".

"I'm just happy to be through to my first final and the rest I just get to enjoy".

Shapovalov also denied Krajinovic his first ATP Tour title.
