Boy 14 stabbed to death in front of his mother

He was later pronounced dead in hospital.

His mother was on-site and witnessed the attack on her son, but police declined to say why she was there.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing and authorities continue to look for at least two other suspects, the release said.

A third male suspect was also later arrested, Bereziuk said.

Grief counsellors will be made available at the high school to those affected by the incident, police said. "We are in possession of that", he said.

Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon, Sgt. Steve Berziuk identified the boy as Devan Selvey.

The first is described as a light-skinned black female in her early teens.

The second outstanding suspect was described by police as a white teenaged male wearing white shoes, dark-coloured trousers, a grey-long sleeved shirt and a black backpack.

The second suspect is described as awhite male, in his early teens.

Figueiredo said the school board will be supporting students and staff as it works with the Hamilton Police Service.

Bereziuk said police believe there was a relationship between the suspects and the victim, although he wouldn't elaborate on what that relationship was. However, he could not provide any details on the extent of the relationship.

Police have not found the weapon yet, and urge people in the neighbourhood to check their properties and surroundings for a knife, but not to touch it if located.

Charges have not yet been laid.

Several schools and daycares in the area were briefly placed under a hold and secure order as police investigated the incident. Around 3:40 p.m., police said the teenager had succumbed to his injuries.

In a statement issued on the day of the deadly stabbing, the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board said it was "shocked" by what had occurred.

"That breaks my heart", she said upon learning 14 - year-old died.

"Our thoughts are with the student's family and loved ones", the school stated.
