Authorities report that the 19 year-old male student intentionally walked in front of the westbound Amtrak train, just west of the Erie Street crossing, around 8:25 PM Saturday evening.

Zachary Winston, a Division III basketball player and younger brother of Michigan State senior Cassius Winston, died Saturday night when he was killed by an Amtrak train, the Detroit Free Press reported.

As a campus, we have provided opportunities for students, faculty and staff to receive counseling and support in the challenging days ahead.

Cassius Winston, Michigan State's point guard, was a preseason All-American last month. And as families do in hard times, we must come together to mourn and to embrace one another.

MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo released a statement on behalf of the team that said, "Our hearts are filled with sorrow for the Winston family".

It is unknown if Cassius will play with Michigan State, now ranked No. 1 in college basketball, on Sunday night. "That family is so tight, they didn't do anything without each other", Donnelly said. "Obviously, he was dealing with some things he didn't put outward".

The Albion Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Suarez's global teammate Nicolas Lodeiro has told ESPN that he wants a move to MLS . 'He is always asking me about the league. I think it's only a matter of time before he's out here, " Nicolas Lodeiro told ESPN.

The train was delayed over three hours at the scene until the investigation was completed.

"Service on an Amtrak train 355 was temporarily suspended after it came into contact with a person on the track", Kimberly Woods from Amtrak Media Relations said in an emailed statement to The State News.

The family was recently celebrated during an exhibition game between Albion and Michigan State at the Breslin Center.

The news, first reported by the Detroit Free Press and confirmed to MLive by Albion police, has sent waves across MI and the college basketball landscape.

Zachary Winston is survived by his two brothers and their parents, Reg and Wendi Winston of Detroit.

Albion police said the incident was a suicide.

Michigan State, now ranked No. 1 in college basketball, is scheduled to play Binghamton on Sunday night.
