The NBA has fined the Los Angeles Clippers $50,000 for statements produced by mentor Doc Rivers and a few others that have been "inconsistent with (Kawhi) Leonard's overall health position". And that's important. But he played a lot of minutes in the playoffs previous year.

"... So, it's not a health thing, really". It is in some ways.

Because Rivers' statement was in opposition to what the league and Clippers team doctors were claiming, the Clippers organization was hit with the fine.

The NBA fined the club $50,000 on Thursday, one day after Rivers told media (per Clutch Points) that star forward Kawhi Leonard "feels great" even though he was missing Wednesday's nationally televised home game vs. the Bucks. "The team has reasonably determined that Leonard is suffering from an ongoing injury to the patella tendon in his left knee and has been placed by the team at this time on an injury protocol for back-to-back games". With averages of 28.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game, he was both a finalist for league MVP and Defensive Player of the Year last season.

It's no surprise that the Clippers are being careful with Leonard, and the Raptors proved last season that prioritizing Leonard's health can yield major dividends in the postseason - but National Basketball Association fans are understandably bummed. Leonard returned to play October 31, in a victory against San Antonio, just as he is expected to play Thursday against Portland.
