Republicans on the House intelligence committee have asked its chairman, Adam Schiff, to call as witnesses both Hunter Biden, who had business links to Ukraine, and the still unidentified whistleblower, who is known to work in the intelligence community.

On Saturday, House intelligence committee ranking member Rep.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) doubled down on his defense of President Trump amid the ongoing impeachment inquiry, arguing there's "nothing there" in the call between Trump and Ukrainian leaders to suggest the president did anything wrong.

House Republicans are on the offensive demanding Hunter Biden and the Ukrainian phone call whistleblower to testify for the impeachment inquiry.

"Without the whistleblower complaint, we wouldn't be talking about any of this", he added.

The first public hearing will feature Bill Taylor, the acting USA ambassador to Ukraine, who already testified behind closed doors before congressional investigators that the president pushed Ukraine to investigate election interference, Biden and his son and their Ukrainian dealings - and that he was told US military aid and a White House meeting were used as leverage to get a public announcement from Kiev that the probes were underway.

"All sources tell us that what the whistleblower said was secondhand information, and they now have firsthand information of diplomats, military people, others that actually heard these actions occur", Klobuchar said on CNN's "State of the Union".

"It's important that the president has due process, and evidence is not a conclusion", Swalwell said.

Wall St set for subdued open as trade-fueled rally pauses
Increasing optimism on the trade front and mostly better-than-expected earnings have driven the recent record run in stocks. Declining issues outnumbered advancers for a 1.14-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and for a 1.01-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq.

In addition to Mr. Biden, son of former Vice President Joseph R. Biden and a former board member of Ukraine's Burisma Holdings, the list included former Burisma board member Devon Archer; ex-Democratic National Committee staffer Alexandra Chalupa, and former Fusion GPS opposition researcher Nellie Ohr.

"We expect that you will call each of the witnesses listed above to ensure that the Democrats" "impeachment inquiry' treats the President with fairness, as promised by Speaker Pelosi", Nunes warned, clearly aware the request was likely to be denied.

According to Fox News, the president told reporters "The witch hunt continues, lot of witch hunt continues".

Yet, he still said that his committee was "evaluating" the request and vowed to "give due consideration to witnesses within the scope of the impeachment inquiry, as voted on by the House".

House Democrats are starting pubic hearings as part of the impeachment inquiry next week, kicking off with two key witness testimonies on Wednesday and one on Friday.

The whistle-blower complaint letter was submitted to Intelligence Inspector General Michael Atkinson.

Three committees have jointly conducted a number of closed-door hearings and the Democrats have released transcripts from those rivate depositions. They previously have testified behind closed doors.
