Trump calls for complete support, not just fight against impeachment

House Republicans Put Whistleblower and Hunter Biden on List of Witnesses They Want to Testify at Impeachment Hearings

House Republicans on Saturday (local time) submitted a list of witnesses they'd like to testify as part of the chamber's impeachment inquiry into US President Donald Trump and Ukraine.

"President Trump should be afforded an opportunity to confront his accusers, the anonymous whistleblower should testify", Nunes argued in this letter to Schiff (D-Ca) while pointing at "multiple discrepancies between the whistleblower's complaint and the closed-door testimony of the witnesses".

Schiff on Saturday accused Republicans of pursuing "sham investigations into the Bidens" and said he would not "facilitate the president's effort to threaten, intimidate and retaliate against the whistleblower, who courageously raised the initial alarm".

(AP) Democrats must approve any requests submitted by Republicans and they are expected to reject the requests for Hunter Biden and the whistleblower to appear. "And the whistleblower has great risk associated with his life right now".

"The only thing that the whistleblower can say is that he was told by other people about the phone call", Speier said.

The US Open Final: Who Will Make it?
The 34-year-old Swiss won the first two sets 6-4 and 7-5, forcing an injured and struggling Djokovic to retire in the third. If she’s at her best, then she’ll make it to the final and if she performs on the day the title will be hers.

On Friday Marie Yovanovitch, the former US ambassador to Ukraine, is scheduled to testify.

Another Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of NY, also rejected the call for Hunter Biden to testify.

Yet, he still said that his committee was "evaluating" the request and vowed to "give due consideration to witnesses within the scope of the impeachment inquiry, as voted on by the House". But the overall White House impeachment-defense strategy, which has included a furious personal focus by Trump on the individual behind the complaint, has prompted some unease in Republican ranks. He said it would be "inappropriate", but not impeachable, for a president to ask a foreign leader to investigate a political rival, as Trump is alleged to have done. Texas Republican Rep. Will Hurd, who previously worked as an undercover officer with the Central Intelligence Agency, said on Fox News Sunday that unmasking the whistleblower could have a chilling effect on would-be whistleblowers. Ukrainian officials say Hunter Biden is not suspected of any wrongdoing.

"I think whatever happens now, there will be a taint to this one-sided partisan approach to impeachment, that is different that has been used before, and so I think there will be intense skepticism about whatever they come up with", he said. Trump has said he withheld the $400 million in aid to Ukraine because he was concerned the government was not doing enough to fight corruption.

Another Democratic member of the committee, Jim Himes, said Sunday that when people hear from respected officials with first-hand knowledge of the pressure campaign against Ukraine "the president's defense. which is all these people had second-hand knowledge, that's going to crumble".
