"These results are unacceptable and that is why we must reset the vapor category in the USA and earn the trust of society by working cooperatively with regulators, Attorneys General, public health officials, and other stakeholders to combat underage use", Crosthwaite said in a statement.

Last month, more than 50 health and advocacy groups sent letters to US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and first lady Melania Trump, urging the Trump administration to support a plan that would require e-cigarette companies to take all flavored products off the market, including mint and menthol.

President Trump said on Friday that a final decision on vaping products will be issued next week.

Juul Labs says it will halt sales of its best-selling mint-flavored electronic cigarettes.

CNN reached out to FDA for an on-the-record comment about the President's remarks and was not provided one. Trump did not offer specifics about which products a new age limit would apply to.

He was convicted of a handful of crimes relating to fraud, grand larceny, and corruption, among others, dating back to 1982. A call to the company by The Epoch Times for comment after normal business hours wasn't immediately returned.

The federal minimum age for purchasing tobacco products is 18, but states can also set their own law and several have already passed bills restricting their sale to people aged 21 and over.

But this report was published before sharp increases in popularity of vaping among young people.

After stopping mint sales, Juul will only sell menthol and tobacco flavors.
