Barca reward teenage forward Fati with new contract

One of FC Barcelona's African-born wonderkids has penned a new deal with the Catalan giants, and the improved contract could see his release clause rise to an incredible €400 million (R6.4 billion).

The Camp Nou side also stated the buy-out clause will automatically go up to €400m when he signs a professional contract as a full member of the first team.

Fati joined Barca's academy in 2012 and this season became the youngest LaLiga goalscorer in the club's history. From the first day, I have learned things from everyone. Also in hard times, because they have always been there to support me, "he said".

"Working day by day with the most effective is a dream, and in addition a reward".

The 17-year-old's release clause will also be bumped up to 400 million euros - nearly double the world-record 222 million euros Paris Saint-Germain paid Barcelona for Neymar - when he signs a professional contract with the first team.

"From now onwards, what I've to do is hold working, even more durable than ever, to maintain getting probabilities and keep it up having fun with myself. The rest will come later".

Fati, who is also eligible to play for Guinea-Bissau, was granted Spanish citizenship in September - clearing the way for him to represent them at Under-21 level for the first time the following month.

Fati, 17, has made nine appearances in La Liga this season, scoring two goals.
