Genius sued Google over alleged stolen lyrics

"Hey- you didn't sing the curly quote right

Google have allegedly been taking lyrics from Genius' website to use and push in search results via their own lyric's partner, LyricFind.

Lyrics and annotation web site Genius, formerly known as Rap Genius, is suing Google over allegations the search company directly copied song lyrics from Genius' site then repackaged them as Google search results.

In June, a Wall Street Journal article suggested that Google had been publishing lyrics taken directly from Genius. According to LyricFind, it offered to remove "any lyrics Genius felt had originated from them, even though we did not source them from Genius' site" but that Genius declined to respond to the offer.

'See you soon in Italy': Ibrahimovic fuels talk of Serie A return
According to the Telegraph , Zlatan Ibrahimovic has agreed deal with AC Milan until the end of the 2019/20 season in the Serie A . I don't just want to do one or two things well, I want to do all of it", he said".

In addition to monetary damages, Genius is also seeking a permanent injunction against LyricFind "prohibiting the continued misappropriation of content from Genius's website, including the licensing of such content to third parties, such as Google". Genius says that Google's recent moves caused massive drops, citing a Selena Gomez track that dropped from a 75% clickthrough from Google search to a 5% clickthrough after Google started posting the Genius lyrics directly. Recently, Genius raised the issue again and provided a few examples. The lyrics information box on Google for the "Panda" song by Desiigner, was the first one that led to Genius suspecting that lyrics from its website had been misappropriated. Google, in a blog post that was published on June 18, had said,"Music publishers often don't have digital copies of the lyrics text".

Genius figured out that its lyrics were being lifted, explained the WSJ over the summer, because it inserted a sequence of punctuation into its lyrics that spelled out "Red Handed" when converted to Morse code. LyricFind also made a decision to remove lyrics that Genius accused them of copying while insisting that the lyrics weren't sourced from Genius' site.

"Google knowingly displays lyrics that are copied from Genius in search results in order to keep users from leaving Google to go to other sites", Genius's chief strategy officer, Ben Gross, had said in June, adding that "it's clearly unfair and anti-competitive". Genius has spent to build its business and database, and so it amounts to unfair competition, says a report by The Verge.
