Takeaways: Jets' Win Streak Ends Against Bengals

Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton and first-year coach Zac Taylor hugged and traded a couple of pats to the chest before Dalton jogged onto the field for the final time on Sunday. Taylor benched Dalton after the eighth loss, deciding to see whether Ryan Finley fit into the team's long-term plans.

Dalton got beyond his initial bitterness over the benching and led the NFL's lone winless team to the breakthrough victory in front of 39,804 fans. Dalton also surpassed Anderson's franchise mark for most career completions.

The loss was historically significant for the Jets (4-8), who had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Darnold was 28 of 48 for 239 yards with four sacks as NY had its least-productive game on offense since a 33-0 loss to New England on October 21.

Entering Sunday 0-11, the Bengals become the second team this season to play the Jets with a record of 0-7 or worse and win. NY lost to Miami, which was 0-7 at the time, on November 3. But Gase's offense, which looked fixed after three-straight 34-point outings, completely disappeared on Sunday as they went without a touchdown for the fifth game this season.

The events in Villa Union add to a series of recent security lapses that have raised questions about Lopez Obrador's policy. Mexico has always been besieged by deadly violence with drug cartels and criminal gangs fighting for control of territories.

But the Jets offense - which posted just three total yards through the first 20 minutes of the second half - would continue to implode throughout when Kelvin Beachum's hold in the end zone that resulted in a safety to put Cincinnati up 19-6 with 6:18 remaining in the third.

Darnold completed 28-of-48 passes for 239 yards while All-Pro running back Le'Veon Bell carried the ball just 10 times for 32 yards. Sam Darnold was sacked four times and picked up a lot of his passing yardage late with the Bengals playing against the clock.

Dalton put Cincinnati ahead to stay with a 17-yard pass to Tyler Boyd that made him the Bengals' career leader in touchdown passes, moving ahead of Ken Anderson with 198.

Dalton finished 22 of 37 for 243 yards with no interceptions and one sack. Beyond any numbers, there was a clear spark to the Bengals that wasn't in evidence in the last few weeks and defensive end Carlos Dunlap provided further jolts with three sacks.

Jets: host the Dolphins. But following an effort in which they failed to find the end zone versus a Bengals defense that was allowing 26.5 points per game, much of that same pessimism around the team has returned. One day after the Bengals' 16-10 loss to the Steelers in Week 12, Taylor said he was going back to Dalton because he felt the ninth-year player out of TCU gave the Bengals the best chance to win.
