Trump campaign bans Bloomberg News from campaign events amid accusations of political bias

"Bloomberg News is one of the largest and most influential news organizations in the world".

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Michael Bloomberg expressed regret on Tuesday for the impact his hard-line policing tactics had on minorities during his time as New York City mayor and pledged during a meeting with advocates of reform to focus on criminal justice if elected president.

Some activists are skeptical of Bloomberg's apology and note that he is seeking to nominate the Democratic president.

This comes after Bloomberg News declared they are refraining from reporting on their CEO Michael Bloomberg's campaign, and are extending that courtesy to the other 2020 presidential candidates.

Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale called it a troubling decision to "formalize preferential reporting policies". He said Bloomberg reporters would no longer be credentialed to cover campaign events until the policy is rescinded.

Bloomberg's editor-in-chief has denied the accusations, and is claiming the outlet has covered the Trump campaign in a fair and unbiased way since the beginning of his candidacy back in 2015.

Micklethwait said the journalists would cover the campaign's news "in much the same way as we have done before", with the exception that articles will explicitly state that Bloomberg News's owner is a candidate. This put the media empire owned by the former New York City mayor in a hard position from the standpoint of journalist ethics. Trump took to Twitter to blast "Mini Mike" Bloomberg for the news organization's coverage decision.

"The second major change we're going to make is to reduce the number of adults in prison ... it starts with improving schools, expanding job training, and investing in economic growth in communities that have suffered generations of neglect", Bloomberg said.

"As President Trump's campaign, we are accustomed to unfair reporting practices, but most news organizations don't announce their biases so publicly", Parscale said in a statement.

The media group said it would not investigate Bloomberg's family or foundations, nor his Democratic rivals, but would publish or summarize investigative pieces on all Democratic candidates.

Trump's potential Democratic rival in the 2020 contest, former Vice President Joe Biden, also panned the Trump campaign's position as he campaigned Monday in Iowa. You gotta be big boys here.
