Colin Trevorrow’s original script for Episode IX is very different

"You're story isn't written by anyone else".

Rey's parents aren't entirely absent from Trevorrow's leaked script, though. Kylo Ren reveals he killed Rey's parents at the behest of Snoke.

Where The Rise of Skywalker chose something of a split decision when it came to Kylo Ren (Ben Solo rejected the Dark Side and sacrificed his life for Rey) Colin Trevorrow's Duel of the Fates goes hard on Ren as a Villainous Villain who Villains Forever.

Continuing with the split story structure of The Last Jedi, the film opens with Rose, Finn, C-3PO, and R2-D2 spearheading an assault against the now promoted Chancellor Hux on Coruscant to activate an old Jedi beacon that would re-establish galactic communications for the Resistance. None of the six stories are meant to be an entirely truthful account of Luke's life and adventures, but each offers insight into the legend of Luke Skywalker and how the story of a former moisture farmer-turned-Rebel hero and Jedi Knight has grown and evolved into myth.

Leia, however, remains skeptical, and it is her instinct that ultimately proves correct.

- Ren's face being damaged and somehow repaired with smelted Mandalorian armor.

And Ren even rejects the example of Darth Vader. But I also would have loved to see a stolen Star Destroyer and Kylo v. Vader. Failing to turn to the light side despite the appearances of Luke, Yoda and Obi-Wan as Force ghosts, Kylo simply dies.

Finally, Rey and Kylo Ren have their final confrontation.

Jennifer Lopez regrets the rejection of this Oscar-nominated role
Most fans are angry about Lopez being snubbed saying it is not the first time she has been left out of the awards. Diversity in awards season was a hot topic again after the Baftas failed to nomination a single actor of colour.

- A whole bunch of other stuff, including quite a lot of Force ghost Luke Skywalker. But other touches, like maintaining Rey's parentage, following Kylo Ren's character arc from sidekick to main villain, and even Rey's makeshift saber staff seem to give the film a more conclusive feel than The Rise of Skywalker's more reboot-centric tone.

Duel of the Fates also sent our favorite First Order defect and maintenance worker-turned-soldier on an undercover mission to an enemy base. Palpatine's projection relays a message that was originally meant for Darth Vader, instructing him to seek out an ancient Sith master named Tor Valum, who apparently instructed Palpatine. According to the description, the Holocron unleashes the Emperor's signature lightning, this time in red, burning Kylo Ren into his final form.

This version of Episode IX does seem to build a lot more on the promises and ideas in The Last Jedi than the movie we got.

How high do you think The Rise of Skywalker can reach at the worldwide box office?

Eventually Trevorrow left and Abrams replaced him, but the Jurassic World director's version of IX, ostensibly titled Duel of the Fates (a callback to John Williams' famous track for The Phantom Menace), sounds mighty fascinating. Leia teams up with Lando to arrange help from smugglers in overturning the First Order's rule, and the final battle occurs on Coruscant, off the back of civil unrest sparked by Finn and the droids.

After a film's worth of adventure, the story would conclude on Mortis, a planet from the Clone Wars cartoon that once served as home to a number of beings that can only be described as Force Gods. That portion of the plot would have largely involved Finn, Leia, the droids and Kelly Marie Tran's Rose Tico, who would apparently have been given a far meatier role here than what she was reduced to in Rise of Skywalker.
