Portland Family Swept Out To Sea

7-year-old girl died 4-year-old boy missing after they were swept out to sea with father

The father and daughter were unresponsive after being pulled from the ocean, but the father is expected to survive, KPTV reported.

NBC affiliate KGW of Portland reported that onlookers were flocking to OR beaches Saturday to see the waves and tides, but it wasn't immediately clear if the trio were drawn there by the forecast. The search was called off after almost five hours.

The father was holding the two children when a wave swept all three into the water at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Falcon Cove area, near the small coastal community of Cannon Beach, authorities said.

Stiles 4-year-old son is still missing, reports say. The officer was able to grab the girl and bring her to shore.

The child was brought to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Boeing Part Supplier Announces 2,800 Staff Cuts, Citing 737 Max Grounding
He argues "Boeing needs a CEO with an understanding of aviation markets, program management, and most of all, engineering". Boeing is reeling from two fatal 737 Max jet crashes - in October 2018 and March 2019 - that killed 346 passengers.

State police confirmed the Cannon Beach Fire Department, Cannon Beach Police Department and Manzanita Police Department sent officers to assist at the scene of the incident.

The effort was suspended "indefinitely" by Sunday morning, US Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Steve Strohmaier told the outlet. Coast Guard officials have urged the public to avoid jetties and rocks.

The National Weather Service warned OR beachgoers to be careful at the coast this weekend as massive waves, coupled with an unusually high tide, slammed the coastline. "These tides are unpredictable, and the surf with this weather is a unsafe mix - Mother Nature's not forgiving". 'People can be swept off rocks and jetties and drown while observing the high surf'. "While great to look at, do not forget to stay a safe distance away as a High Surf Warning is still in play". The next round of king tides will hit the coast on the weekend of February 8.

The names of the child victims have not been released.

Oregon State Police has been contacted for additional comment.
