The son of New Jersey rock legend Bruce Springsteen is now a full-fledged Jersey City firefighter after being sworn in with 14 other plebes Tuesday by Fire Chief Steven McGill.

With his proud parents Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa and brother Evan in the audience, Sam was one of 15 new firefighters sworn in by Mayor Steven Fulop and Public Safety Director James Shea.

"It was a long road, he's very dedicated, quite a few years and we are just excited for him today", said Bruce Springsteen told CNN affiliate WCBS.

Sam, 25, joined the department as a trainee over the summer, fulfilling a lifelong dream to join the fire service, Scialfa said in an Instagram post at the time. She told her son to "stay safe" and "love your courageous heart!"

Since Fulop took office in 2013, a total of 204 new firefighters have been hired, bringing the department to a historic high of 666 uniformed firefighters and superiors.
