Britain's gross domestic product (GDP) growth was flat in the final quarter previous year, marking a hard period for the country's economy largely thanks to Brexit uncertainty, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Tuesday. "So I don't see why it shouldn't work with the United Kingdom".

Addressing the European Parliament on Tuesday, Michel Barnier told MEPs the EU would not open financial services up for negotiations in trade talks.

The president welcomed UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's recent call for the post-Brexit UK to become a "global champion of free trade", saying that the European Union also welcomed a "fairer, and stronger" trade system.

A report by audit firm Ernst & Young in 2019 denotes that financial service companies moved one trillion pounds (about 1.3 trillion USA dollars) in assets to the rest of Europe due to the Brexit, and some 7,000 financial services jobs stood to be transferred from London to Europe, "with around 2,000 new jobs set to be hired in European financial hubs over the United Kingdom capital".

"Were this proposal [to do away with daylight savings] to become European Union law under its current single market legal basis, Northern Ireland may be obliged under the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement and the protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland to align with the European Union and thus institute a time border with Great Britain".

"No other boats under 10 metres in Europe are subject to this regime, nor even in Scotland or Wales".

Tom McCormack, MMO chief executive, said: "Fishermen who are recording catches to the best of their ability have no need to worry".

"There have been assurances given and my inclination is to take them at face value", he said.

The PTA's Pessell said: "What is promised today will be forgotten tomorrow and fishermen will be criminalised for failing to do the impossible".
