Fashion designer Wendell Rodricks dies at 59

Fashion designer and activist Wendell Rodricks passed away at his Goa home on February 12. According to a report by News18.com, he died at his Colvale home due to a cardiac arrest. Condolences started pouring in from politicians as well as people of fashion and showbiz world. The designer had also associated himself with various social causes and was vocal on environmental issues as well as LGBTQ+ rights.

Rodricks, one of the most popular fashion designers from Goa, was awarded a Padma Shri in 2014 and was also accorded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts Et Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture in 2015. Rodricks was known for pioneering the idea of resort wear and for advocating eco-friendly fashion. "My heartfelt condolences to his family & dear ones", Goa's Health Minister Vishwajit Rane tweeted. Everyone from Neeta Lulla to Smriti Irani took to their official social media handles to condole his sudden death.

Born to a Goan Catholic family in May 1960, Rodricks began his career in fashion by designing for Garden Vareli, Lakmé Cosmetics and DeBeers. He had married Jerome Marrel in a civil ceremony in Paris in 2002.
