The ninth diagnosis in the United Kingdom came hours after Dr Paul Cosford, from Public Health England, told the BBC more cases of coronavirus in the United Kingdom are "highly likely".

Mr Walsh contracted the virus in Singapore before flying to France for a skiing holiday on 24 Jan, where he passed it on to 11 more people.

In the statement, Walsh also said that he contacted his doctor and health authorities as soon as he knew he had been exposed to a confirmed case of coronavirus.

United Kingdom health officials expected the virus to spread until it reaches a peak in the United Kingdom in the summer.

Earlier this week, the British government declared that the coronavirus was a "serious and imminent" threat to public health.

A total of 1,758 people have been tested for coronavirus in the UK.

Earlier this week a British coronavirus "super spreader", who may have infected almost a dozen other people, was released from a London hospital after recovering from the deadly virus he picked up while in Singapore.

"I was advised to attend an isolated room at hospital, despite showing no symptoms, and subsequently self-isolated at home as instructed", Mr Walsh said.

He was diagnosed on February 6.

Mr Walsh, a 53-year-old scout leader from Hove in East Sussex, now posed "no risk to the public", NHS England said.

"I would like to thank the NHS for their help and care - whilst I have fully recovered, my thoughts are with others who have contracted coronavirus".

"It's good to be back with my family", he added.

A British coronavirus "super spreader" who may have infected almost a dozen other people has been released from the hospital after recovering from the deadly illness, according to reports.

A total of 1,750 people in the United Kingdom have tested negative for the virus, which causes the disease now known as Covid-19.

Experts previously warned that highly contagious coronavirus carriers known as "super spreaders" could make the new outbreak more unpredictable and tougher to contain.

With the virus, some patients might infect one or two people, while a "super spreader" could spread the illness to dozens, the Telegraph reported.

The new case - announced on Wednesday evening - is the first to be identified in London.

"So far over 50 tests have been done that have come back negative; there are a number of tests that are outstanding".

He said up to 60% of people could become infected, with most suffering mild symptoms.

The virus is believed to have sickened tens of thousands of people in China, and the outbreak is centered in Wuhan, Hubei Province.
