The jury in Harvey Weinstein's sexual assault trial in NY say they are deadlocked on the most serious criminal charges but suggested they are unanimous on the others levelled against the former Hollywood mogul.

NY jurors weighing rape and sexual assault charges against former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein ended their third day of deliberations by asking on Thursday to review testimony from actress Annabella Sciorra.

'We the jury request to understand if we can be hung on 1 and/or 3 but unanimous on the others, ' read the note, which was entered during the lunch break. The jury did not say what it had decided on the lesser counts.

Burke instructed the jury - comprising seven men and five women - to continue deliberations for a unanimous verdict on all charges.

To convict on predatory sexual assault, they must believe one or both of the women plus "The Sopranos" actress Annabella Sciorra who says Weinstein raped her nearly 30 years ago.

Another legal expert, defence attorney Julie Rendelman, said the jurors might be confused by the complexity of the predatory sexual assault charge. In order to convict Weinstein of predatory sexual assault, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, jurors must agree he raped or sexually assaulted Sciorra and that he committed one of the other charged offenses.

The jurors have been deliberating since Tuesday morning.

Anna Sciorra, best known for her role in HBO's "The Sopranos", testified that Weinstein came to her NY apartment one winter night in 1993 or 1994, raped her and then forced oral sex on her. Mann, a hairdresser and aspiring actress, testified that Weinstein raped her in 2013.

Jurors started the day Friday by listening to a reading of Ms. Sciorra's cross-examination and follow-up questioning by prosecutors. She was the first accuser to do so in the closely watched #MeToo trial. Did you scratch him?

Prosecutors say Sciorra weighed only about 110 pounds (50 kilograms) in those days, making her no match for the 300-pound (135-kilogram) Weinstein. On Wednesday, they asked to rehear the testimony of Sciorra's friend, Rosie Perez, who testified the actress confided in her about being raped after the alleged incident.

Sciorra didn't get involved in the criminal case until later.

"Annabella was brought into this case for one reason and one reason only", Rotunno said in her closing argument last week.
