China slashes international flights in effort to curb coronavirus risk

A total of 67 new cases were reported as of end-Wednesday, up from 47 a day earlier, all of which were imported, China's National Health Commission said in a statement on Thursday.

Also on Wednesday, six deaths and 58 new suspected cases were reported on the mainland with all the deaths in Hubei Province and all the suspected cases from overseas.

In Hubei and Wuhan alone as of Wednesday 3,169 people died since January.

As the pandemic is spreading across the world, Chinese authorities lately deployed measures to guard against imported cases of COVID-19 and a rebound in domestically transmitted cases.

Also, Hubei reported 58 new suspected cases and nation-wide 159 people were still suspected of being infected with the virus, the NHC said. The Hubei Health Commission said on Thursday that the condition of 914 people admitted to various hospitals still remained critical while 287 people were in critical condition. He had the same travel trajectory of flights with the other four confirmed cases of COVID-19 imported from Pakistan reported in Guangzhou on Monday. No new cases of corona virus infection were reported locally for the second consecutive day in China, but 67 new cases of infected people from overseas were reported in the country.

Meanwhile, China lowered the threat level in the Corona virus center Wuhan to moderate on Wednesday and for the first time after 9 weeks of lockdown, city bus services were restored.

Mainland China reported a second consecutive day of no new local coronavirus infections as the epicenter of the epidemic Hubei province opened its borders, but imported cases rose as Beijing ramped up controls to prevent a resurgence of infections.

Also, Wuhan will resume commercial flights from April 8, excluding worldwide flights and flights to and from Beijing.

However, the prolonged lockdown of Hubei's capital Wuhan will end on April 8, lifting the mass quarantine over the city with a population of over 11 million.
