Both Quebec and Ontario announced that non-essential businesses would shut down by midnight Tuesday.

A short while later, Toronto Mayor John Tory declared a state of emergency, which allows him to sidestep council in implementing unspecified measures down the road.

"Even in today's data, one might presume that the results also come from the increase in the number of tests, so we hope that in the coming days, the jumps will not be as significant", Legault said, noting the time between testing and results is down to about two days. On Monday the Quebec government, issued a list of essential businesses and services that can remain open through April 13. He says he is still symptom-free.

The Canadian government announced on Wednesday that it will be enforcing the Quarantine Act and that Canadians returning from overseas are mandated to self-isolate for 14 days.

"We have no choice but to call upon the police and law enforcement agency to enforce self-isolation and social distancing", said Nova Scotia Justice Minister Mark Furey.

The spread of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 continues, with more cases diagnosed in Canada.

Yukon, which has two cases, has strongly advised against non-essential travel in and out of the province.

As the health crisis takes hold of the province's economy, the premier said he understands that many people are suddenly in a precarious financial situation.
