Days after an influencer, GayShawnMendes, who took part in a "Coronavirus challenge" which involved licking the edge of a toilet seat, says he has tested positive for the disease.

He had tweeted "I tested positive for coronavirus".

Larz, 21, who is based in California in the USA and posts under the handle GAYSHAWNMENDES has participated in previous challenges including licking tubs of ice cream in supermarkets.

The coronavirus challenge began after a Tik Tok influencer filmed herself licking aeroplane toilet and shared her video on Tik Tok.

Previous TikTok challenges have included the one which saw influencers entering supermarkets and licking ice cream.

The coronavirus challenge has led many sharing their videos on various forms of social media.

Larz was also the same personality who had earlier licked an ice cream in a grocery store, and replaced the tub in a challenge past year.

Larz previously appeared on Dr. Phil where he said: "I don't talk to my family".

His Twitter account, @gayshawnmendes, was also suspended for promoting the potentially risky viral stunt.

"None of them have fans, in the event that they were given fans or were given wealthy, I would most definitely communicate to them once more", he reasoned.

"I'm sure her parents are proud", a Twitter user responded.

These shocking videos are in direct contradictions of what health experts have been advising to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The rate of coronavirus infections is soaring around the world including in the USA where more than 55,500 cases have been confirmed as of Wednesday afternoon, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
